Adhesives

The adhesive decides whether a label stays on a chilled bottle, peels cleanly from a reusable jar or grips a textured HDPE container. We match it to the surface, the application temperature and the life of the product.

Behaviours

Four adhesive behaviours

Behaviour is what you specify; the chemistry behind it (acrylic, rubber, hot melt) is chosen by us for the face stock and surface.

LABELSURFACE

Permanent

Bonds fully within hours and stays for the life of the product. The default for product labels.

  • Glass, PET and coated surfaces at room temperature
  • Product, ingredient and compliance labels
  • Most roll and sheet label projects
Not designed to come off cleanly; for reuse or returns choose removable.
SURFACE

Removable

Holds during use and peels cleanly without residue within an agreed time frame.

  • Promotions, pricing and seasonal labels
  • Reusable containers and returnable packaging
  • Glass, metal and smooth plastics
Removability depends on the surface and time: confirm on your container.

Cold-use

Applies and holds on chilled, frozen or condensation-wet surfaces where standard adhesives fail.

  • Beverage, dairy and chilled food lines
  • Freezer packaging
  • Bottles labelled wet or applied cold
Tell us whether the label is applied cold or chilled afterwards; the choice differs.
TEXTURED

High-tack

Extra initial grip on low-energy plastics and rough or textured surfaces.

  • HDPE, PP and PE bottles and tubes
  • Kraft and textured paperboard
  • Lightly textured plastics and powder coatings
Very rough surfaces and oily surfaces need a test; share the container.
By surface & condition

A starting point, not a guarantee: adhesion is confirmed on your container with samples before production.
What we confirm

What we need to confirm the adhesive

These four answers come straight from the quote form; anything unknown is worked out with samples.

Surface & conditionMaterial, texture, coating, and whether it is clean, oily or dusty at application.
Application temperatureRoom temperature, chilled line, or applied warm and chilled afterwards.
Service environmentWater, oils, chemicals, UV, abrasion and the expected life on the product.
Removal requirementPermanent, removable without residue, or repositionable during application.
Liners

Liners and application

The liner carries the label to the applicator and is removed at application. It is chosen for the machine, not the product.

Glassine paper linerStandard liner for hand and machine application.Economical, easy to peel, suits most roll and sheet labels.
PET film linerThin, strong liner for high-speed and clear-on-clear labels.Keeps clear labels flat and bubble-free; needed for some automatic lines.
Easy-peel linerSplit or tabbed liners for hand application.Sheets and small rolls applied by hand.
Liner specificationStated in the quotation with the roll specification.Core, web width, unwind and labels per roll are on the Roll Labels page.

FAQ

Questions about adhesives

See All FAQs
How long does the adhesive take to reach full strength?
Most permanent adhesives build to full bond over the first hours after application. Avoid washing or chilling the labelled product during that time unless the adhesive is specified for it.
Will the label leave residue when removed?
Removable adhesives are designed to peel cleanly within an agreed time frame on the specified surface; permanent adhesives are not. We confirm removal on your container with samples.
Can one adhesive work on several containers?
Often, yes, when the surfaces are similar. For a mix of glass, PET and HDPE we may propose one construction for all or a high-tack variant for the plastics.
Do you test adhesion before production?
Yes. Samples in the proposed construction are applied to your container and checked for adhesion, edge lift and, where needed, removal.
