BOPP Label Film

Biaxially oriented polypropylene: the standard film for product labels that meet moisture, oil and handling. White, clear and metallised variants with permanent, removable or cold-use adhesives.

  • White, clear and metallised variants with gloss or matte lamination
  • Resists moisture, oils and most household chemicals: bottles, jars, tubes and pouches
  • Permanent, removable and cold-use adhesives; paper or PET liners for machine application
  • Prints with white ink under colour on clear and metallised films

The quotation states the exact grade, gauge, adhesive and liner for your application.

Variants

Three BOPP variants

Same film, different appearance. Choose by how much of the container you want to show and how the brand should read.

White BOPP
White BOPP

Opaque white base for full-colour artwork. The default for most bottle and jar labels; gloss or matte lamination sets the feel.

Clear BOPP
Clear BOPP

Transparent film for the no-label look. Colour is printed over a white ink layer so the artwork stays opaque where you need it.

Metallised BOPP
Metallised BOPP

Silver base for metallic effects. Print white ink where the artwork should be opaque; leave it open where the silver should show.

Limits to plan around

  • Not for high-heat processes such as sterilisation or hot-fill above the film limit: compare PET.
  • Stiffer than PE: for highly squeezable containers ask about a thinner gauge or a PE face stock.
  • Years outdoors need lamination; for long-term exposure compare PET or laminated vinyl.
  • Low-energy plastics such as HDPE and PP may need a high-tack adhesive; share the container for a test.

Adhesives & liners

Adhesives and liners for BOPP

The face stock is only half the label. The adhesive is matched to your surface and conditions; the liner to how the labels are applied.

All adhesives
PermanentGeneral purpose bond on glass, PET and coated surfaces. The default for product labels that stay on for the life of the pack.
Cold-useApplies and holds on chilled or condensation-prone bottles.Beverage, dairy and chilled food lines.
RemovablePeels cleanly for reusable containers, promotions and returns.Confirm on your surface: removability depends on the substrate.
High-tackExtra grip on low-energy plastics and lightly textured surfaces.HDPE and PP bottles, tubes, rough paperboard.

Artwork

Artwork and print notes for BOPP

What to prepare so the material prints and cuts the way you expect.

White ink layerOn clear and metallised BOPP, colour is printed over a white ink layer. Supply the white as a separate layer, or we prepare it from your artwork.
Lamination with the printGloss or matte lamination is chosen with the artwork: matte softens colour slightly; gloss lifts it.
Bleed and safe zoneExtend artwork beyond the cutline and keep key content inside the safe zone; values are in the artwork guidelines.
Variable dataBarcodes, batch numbers and QR codes print cleanly on top-coated BOPP; tell us the data source.
FAQ

Questions about BOPP

See All FAQs
White or clear BOPP?
White when the artwork needs an opaque base and strong colour. Clear when you want the container to show through; the artwork is then printed over a white ink layer where it should be opaque.
Is BOPP waterproof?
The film resists water, oils and most household chemicals. The label as a whole also depends on the adhesive and lamination; share the conditions and we confirm the combination.
Will BOPP work on a squeezable bottle?
On gently squeezed containers, yes. For highly squeezable bottles we look at a thinner gauge or a PE face stock so the label does not wrinkle.
Can BOPP labels go in the fridge or freezer?
Yes, with a cold-use adhesive. Tell us whether the label is applied cold or applied warm and then chilled; the adhesive choice differs.
Gloss or matte lamination?
Gloss lifts colour and resists scuffing; matte reduces glare and reads as premium. Both protect the print; request samples to compare in hand.
